Sterling Kansas
I made it all the way to Sterling Kansas. It is 100 degrees outside but a dry heat as they say. HA HA We are staying with a friend, Jalene here for a few days in an old restored house full of antiques on Broadway street. Niki is afraid of the 3 cats and must get used to climbing stairs. Will be resting for a couple of days and then off to Colorado. Sterling is a quaint little Kansas town and neat as a pin. People don't even lock their doors. There is a college here. While we were here more friends stopped by. Harvey and Kathleen from Sitka Alaska were on their way to Nebraska to visit relatives. This gave me a chance to catch up on information about Alaska. This is the last state for me to visit to make it all 50 and I am planning to visit someday, probably by a cruise ship. What is there to do in Sterling for a bunch of 80 year olds?
Of course why not drive a 1967 Ford convertible to the local Sonic drive in and peel out of the driveway, laying rubber as they say.
Here are some other ideas for things to do in Sterling:
- Visit the Sterling Cultural Center and Museum. The museum has exhibits on the history of Sterling and the surrounding area, as well as a gallery of rotating art exhibits.
- Take a walk or bike ride on the Sterling Rail Trail. The trail is a 3.5-mile paved path that follows an old railroad line.
- Visit the Sterling City Park. The park has a swimming pool, picnic area and campground. The current posted rate for rv camping is $25.00 per night. A dump station is on the grounds.
- Take a day trip to Hutchinson, Kansas. Hutchinson is about an hour away and is home to the Cosmosphere, a space museum, and the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center, a science museum.
